Therapy for PTSD & C-PTSD
In-Person in Phoenix & Virtually throughout Arizona
Trauma doesn't stay in the past. It shows up in your body, your relationships, your reactions: in the way a sound, a smell, or a tone of voice can pull you back somewhere you don't want to go. PTSD can follow a single overwhelming event. C-PTSD often comes from prolonged exposure, years of living in something that wasn't safe. Either way, what you're experiencing makes sense given what you've been through. And healing is possible.
An Understanding Space to Talk about Trauma
No judgment. No pressure to have it all figured out. Whether you're navigating anxiety, big life changes, relationship stress, faith questions, or just a general sense of something feels off — you're welcome here exactly as you are.
Trauma-Informed From the Start
Every part of how we work together is shaped by an understanding of trauma — how it affects the nervous system, the self, and relationships. You won't be asked to relive things before you're ready. Safety comes first.Working at the Root
We'll do more than manage symptoms. Trauma therapy at Philoxenia goes beneath the surface to process what happened — not to erase it, but to change how it lives in you.Rebuilding What Trauma Disrupts
Trauma can fracture your sense of self, safety, and trust. We'll work on all of it — not just the memories, but the identity and relational wounds that come with them.

What to Expect in Your First Session
The first session is a chance for both of us to get to know each other — and to figure out whether we might be a good fit for therapy together.
There's no script, no pressure, and no expectation that you'll walk in with everything figured out. You don't need to have the "right" words for what you're feeling, and you're not expected to share everything at once. What we cover is entirely based on your comfort level and what feels most important to you right now.
I'll ask some questions to get a sense of your experience — what's been going on, what brought you in, and what you're hoping for. Some of those questions might be easy to answer. Others might take a minute. That's okay. We go at your pace.
By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer sense of how I work and whether it feels like the right fit. And if it does, we'll start talking about what it might look like to work together.
A few things you can count on from the very first session:
You won't be judged for what you share — or what you're not ready to share yet
Nothing you say leaves the room (with a few standard legal exceptions I'll walk you through)
You get to decide how deep we go
If you're nervous — that's normal. Most people are. You just have to show up.
FAQs
What's the difference between PTSD and C-PTSD?
1
PTSD typically develops after a specific traumatic event or events. C-PTSD (Complex PTSD) usually develops from prolonged, repeated trauma, often in childhood or in close relationships. The symptoms overlap but C-PTSD often includes more pervasive impacts on identity, emotion regulation, and relationships.
Is this telehealth or in-person?
2
Sessions are available in person in Phoenix, Arizona or virtually throughout the state of Arizona.
Will I have to talk about what happened in detail?
3
Not until you're ready. And even then, we work at your pace. Processing trauma doesn't require re-telling every detail. We'll find an approach that feels manageable.
What modalities do you use for trauma?
4
I draw from several evidence-based approaches including EMDR, somatic awareness, and attachment-based work. We'll talk about what makes the most sense for you.
Will you accept insurance?
5
Philoxenia Counseling is a private-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly, but can provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan allows it.
How long does trauma therapy take?
6
It varies significantly depending on the nature of the trauma, your history, and your goals. We'll check in along the way and never rush the process.
