Therapy with Faith Integration

In-Person in Phoenix & Virtually throughout Arizona

Your faith is part of who you are, the way you make meaning, the community you belong to, the framework through which you understand suffering, hope, and healing. For some people, faith is a source of profound strength. For others, it's also a place of deep pain: spiritual harm, doubt, shame, or the grief of losing something that once held everything together. Wherever you are in your relationship with faith, it's welcome in the room.

An Understanding Space to Explore Faith

No judgment. No pressure to have it all figured out. Whether you're navigating anxiety, big life changes, relationship stress, faith questions, or just a general sense of something feels off — you're welcome here exactly as you are.

  • Your Faith Doesn't Have to Stay at the Door
Therapy with me doesn't ask you to set aside your beliefs to "do the work." Your spiritual life is part of your whole self, and it belongs in the conversation.

  • No Agenda About Where You Should Land
Whether you're deeply rooted in your faith, working through deconstruction, rebuilding after religious harm, or somewhere in between; I'm not here to push you toward any particular conclusion. Your journey is yours.

  •  Holding the Hard Questions Together
Faith and mental health intersect in real ways. Shame, guilt, community rupture, questions about God and suffering, these don't have to stay separate from the therapeutic work. We can hold them together.

What to Expect in Your First Session

The first session is a chance for both of us to get to know each other — and to figure out whether we might be a good fit for therapy together.

There's no script, no pressure, and no expectation that you'll walk in with everything figured out. You don't need to have the "right" words for what you're feeling, and you're not expected to share everything at once. What we cover is entirely based on your comfort level and what feels most important to you right now.

I'll ask some questions to get a sense of your experience — what's been going on, what brought you in, and what you're hoping for. Some of those questions might be easy to answer. Others might take a minute. That's okay. We go at your pace.

By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer sense of how I work and whether it feels like the right fit. And if it does, we'll start talking about what it might look like to work together.

A few things you can count on from the very first session:

  • You won't be judged for what you share — or what you're not ready to share yet

  • Nothing you say leaves the room (with a few standard legal exceptions I'll walk you through)

  • You get to decide how deep we go

If you're nervous — that's normal. Most people are. You just have to show up.

FAQs

Do I have to be religious to work with you?

1

No. Faith integration is an option, not a requirement. If faith isn't part of your life, that's completely fine — we'll work in whatever framework is meaningful to you.

What tradition or background do you work with?

2

I work with people from a variety of faith backgrounds: Christian, post-Christian, deconstructing, spiritual-but-not-religious, and others. I'm not here to represent or promote any particular tradition.

 Is this telehealth or in-person?

3

Sessions are available in person in Phoenix, Arizona or virtually throughout the state of Arizona.

Can we work on religious trauma specifically?

4

Yes. Religious trauma is real and deserves real therapeutic attention. We can address spiritual harm, church hurt, and the impact of harmful religious environments.

Will you accept insurance?

5

Philoxenia Counseling is a private-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly, but can provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan allows it.

What if I'm not sure what I believe anymore?

6

That's a completely valid place to be in, and therapy is a good place to explore it without pressure and without judgment.
